Research and Monitoring

Knowing what is changing, so that management can respond.

The Biosphere Reserve works with universities, the national park and research institutes to monitor forest cover, water, biodiversity, reefs and the wellbeing of communities. Results feed into the reserve's management plan and its ten-yearly periodic review to UNESCO.

What is monitored

Forest and land cover

Changes in forest area and land use across the zones.

Water

Spring discharge and river water quality.

Species and reefs

Key species, coral cover and fish.
